Southport Golf Club

Southport Golf Club Map »

Step onto the serene grounds at Southport Golf Club on the Gold Coast and be immersed in some of Australia's golf history.

The first game of golf to be played on this prime piece of Gold Coast property was played in 1924 and many a competition event and friendly social game has since been enjoyed on its fairways and greens. Famous Queensland aviator, Bert Hinkler, landed his aircraft on this course, under the old Poinciana tree that is still there today.

The Southport Golf Club's 18-hole course is pegged as an easy walk, although buggies are available for hire. The Club regards the first nine holes as a comfortable experience, but warns players to keep their wits about them for the remaining nine holes.

The natural surrounds beckon wildlife to the area, offering you a closer inspection of some of the Gold Coast's diverse fauna. If searching for your golf ball in the water holes, take care not to alarm the resident turtles that occasionally pop to the surface.

In contrast to the history of the grounds, the Clubhouse is a modern building, tastefully designed and completed in 1995. The bar, lounge and restaurant offer weary players a peaceful atmosphere to share a drink or meal after a rewarding few rounds of golf.

If you're planning to stay on the Gold Coast, book accommodation in the nearby seaside suburbs such as Surfers Paradise, Mermaid Beach or Main Beach. There's plenty to do in the area once the sun goes down on your game of golf.
